The Lance Lab is recruiting! We are looking for two temporary technicians. These positions are full time for up to 8 months but do not include benefits. The incumbents will conduct research related to amphibian and reptile ecotoxicology, population monitoring, and conservation. The successful candidates will primarily assist two Masters students with their research projects. Efforts in the spring (March – May) will focus on amphibian research and include field work, animal husbandry, experimental set up/take down, data collection, and data entry. Efforts in the summer (June – September) will focus on snake and amphibian research and include field work, tissue collection, laboratory work (mercury analysis), and data collection/entry. As time permits the technicians may also assist members of the lab with other projects, such as egg mass surveys, analyzing camera trap footage, analyzing acoustic recording device files, and general laboratory upkeep.
Preferred Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in ecology, biology, toxicology, botany, or related life science field is required. Experience with scientific research preferred.
Knowledge/skills/abilities and/or competencies: Experience in conducting ecological research in a collaborative setting, and in collecting and managing data are desirable. Other essential qualifications include strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with Excel. Preferred qualifications include previous experience handling amphibians and/or reptiles.
Starting salary: Commensurate with experience ($15 - $20/hour).
Physical demands: Lift 50lbs, valid US driver’s license, work in wetlands, work outdoors under hot conditions.

Students in the Lance Lab research a broad range of topics within the fields of ectoxicology, conservation, population genetics, and adaptation to anthropogenic stressors. Stacey's graduate faculty status is in the Odum School of Ecology and the Integrated Toxicology Program so interested students should explore their web sites to learn more about the application process, degree requirements, and other faculty in the department.
Prospective Undergraduate Students:
There are numerous opportunities for motivated students to get involved in research. SREL offers summer research opportunities and more information can be found here. In addition, students from either Augusta University or University of South Carolina, Aiken are close enough to SREL to conduct research during the semester. If you are interested in doing independent research for course credit and/or honors research please contact Stacey.
Prospective Postdoctoral Researchers:
I do not currently have funding for a postdoctoral researcher, but am always eager to discuss potential collaborations and proposals to help fund a position.
